Barbie and Ken, portrayed by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, have been confirmed to star in a new installment of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. The couple will reportedly play the parents of Danny Ocean.
According to Showbiz411, the upcoming film is titled Oceans and will serve as a prequel to the original Ocean’s Eleven trilogy where George Clooney portrayed Danny. Most plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but it will involve Ocean’s parents teaching their children the fundamentals of orchestrating a heist and stealing from the rich.
Reportedly set in the 1960s, Oceans will also provide some nostalgic references to the original 1960 Ocean’s 11, which starred Frank Sinatra as its titular heist mastermind. As for contemporary inspirations, we have Greta Gerwig’s Barbie to thank for bringing Gosling on board, as producers saw their impeccable on-screen chemistry with Robbie.
As previously announced, Oceans will be directed by Jay Roach, whose 2019 drama Bombshell earned Robbie an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Both Robbie and Roach are also producing through their respective companies, LuckyChap and Everyman Pictures.
